Welcome!!
A little about the design
In 2022 I designed the first in the 'Three Rivers' trilogy - the Ystwyth. This whole idea came from me pointing the Modern Welsh Quilts group page in the direction of a Welsh folk tale about three of the great rivers of Wales (the Ystwyth, Hafren and Gwy) which originate in the same mountain area but which take different routes to the sea. Here's the link to the tale for those interested https://ztevetevans.wordpress.com/2018/02/14/a-tale-of-three-rivers-the-ystwyth-the-severn-and-the-wye/?fbclid=IwAR0aiVmU_2n4O1A02HW0obrjJ2_SJGJUDTKnCUxUDKyOvagWTyHlXPcNs90
The programme based on the Ystwyth finished a few months into 2023. When thinking of how to approach 'Y Gwy' the whole idea of 'enchantment' was forefront in my mind as the tale makes this section the most beautiful - no pressure there, then! Thus, it was kind of natural for me to think of another BoM design - Enchanted Garden – and I have deliberately tipped my hat to the flower border as it was a personal reference for me. I was taken to the Gwy valley when I was a child, and I really can't remember much about it other than it seemed always to be sunny and there were pink dog roses everywhere I looked. Hence their place in this design!
Once more, this design may look complicated but it's really not very difficult as it only uses the most basic of techniques. There are only a very few pieces under 2" finished size in the whole thing. So if you are looking for something completely untaxing to work on, which nonetheless has a bit of pizzazz to it, then look no further.
It is a ten month project, starting in July 2023

Technical Stuff
The quilt is around 84" x 104" although there is considerable scope to make it larger or smaller when it comes to adjusting borders. It will be a ten month project. |
Instalments
I specify the range of fabrics I have used to design this quilt top in the first instalment, but you don't necessarily have to use them. You can diet your stash!
BUT... please, if you don't want to be disappointed, pay close attention to the depth and tone of the fabrics I have used. A lot of the impact of the design comes from this, and it will help you get a good result if you try to stay on the page as regards your substitutions. |
