Welcome!!
A little about the design
As regular customers of mine will note, I am a bit of a fan of 'gardens' of all sorts and quite a few of my designs have had a garden-inspired theme (Quaker Garden, Enchanted Garden, Desert Garden etc to name but a few) One of my very favourite types of garden, however, is the courtyard, rooftop or 'hidden garden', which are often found in historic houses. To me, they satisfy both my need for Nature insofar as they bring living, growing things into the domestic environment, but also my love of peace, quiet and 'special solitary areas' - because what could be more exclusive than a beautiful garden in the midst of a private house? Another influence in my thinking is my love of the Moorish gardens in Spain, which present such a serene and cool space in the heat of summer. I can imagine both families in the UK and those in Spain enjoying their beautiful peaceful spaces during the summer months, but also suspect the sight of sparkling frost or snow in these places gave their spirits a lift in the dreary grey months too.
Once more, this design echoes the ethos of the 'Traditions' range of designs I put together some time ago, where I used quite simple blocks with few small pieces. The notion was really to give my customers a relaxing, uncomplicated time of things when working on the project in hand. So...this design may LOOK complicated, but the blocks used really are simple and the are only a very few pieces under 2" finished size in the whole thing. So if you are looking for something completely untaxing to work on, which nonetheless has a bit of pizzazz to it, then look no further.
It is a ten month project, starting in July 2023

Technical Stuff
The quilt is around 82" although there is some fiddle room to make it larger or smaller when it comes to adjusting borders. It will be a ten month project. |
Instalments
I specify the range of fabrics I have used to design this quilt top in the first instalment, but you don't necessarily have to use them. You can diet your stash!
BUT... please, if you don't want to be disappointed, pay close attention to the depth and tone of the fabrics I have used. A lot of the impact of the design comes from this, and it will help you get a good result if you try to stay on the page as regards your substitutions. |
