Welcome!!
A little about the design
This design came about because I visited Glasgow to attend the Scottish Quilting Show, where a wonderful band of ladies known as The Biggar Quilters had put on a display showing off their work on one of my other patterns. So many quilts, one pattern, and nobody could really believe the variety which resulted. It was a privilege for me to see such love and care expended on something I'd originally created, and is something I shall never forget.
Whilst in Glasgow I posted the view from my hotel window, which was from high up, looking over the city and the River Clyde, onto the Modern Welsh Quilts group page on Facebook. One wag said 'You'll need to do a design called 'Glasgow Greys' now....'. Never one to disappoint - here it is!!
I took my inspiration not only from the, admittedly quite cloudy, view of the city I posted, but also something of its history where steel and ships were king industries, and also tried to work in a hint of Charles Rennie Mackintosh (a major architectural influence on the city). I've also included a few cheeky thistles!
In reality the background colour is a lot less lavender and a little more grey than it appears here - it's one of the very few fabrics which don't come 'true' on my software.
It is an eight month project, starting in March 2023

Technical Stuff
The quilt is around 68" although I've tried very hard to make it present as NOT a square! It will be an 8 month project. |
Instalments
I specify the range of fabrics I have used to design this quilt top in the first instalment, but you don't necessarily have to use them. You can diet your stash!
BUT... please, if you don't want to be disappointed, pay close attention to the depth and tone of the fabrics I have used. A lot of the impact of the design comes from this, and it will help you get a good result if you try to stay on the page as regards your substitutions. |
