Some more designs.. because the original page was getting a bit long!!!
North Shore
Every so often I can't resist a range of patterned fabric and so it was with this design! I also took the opportunity to keep my customers who were asking for lap sized quilts happy!
This uses the 'Birds in the Air' block and I designed it using Abi Hall's range of fabric called 'On the Wing', hence the name. It's not strictly a 'Llynfi quilt' because it uses patterned fabric, but it is quite typical of the 'everyday' sort of Llynfi quilt in most other respects. As it's quite a simple design, it might be ideal for a less experienced quilter?
The fabric line is long out of print now, but it would work very well with a variety of other options. Let your imagination run riot!
NB, I haven't used a picture from my design software for this one, because unusually the colours I use do not run 'true' on it. Therefore, this is my pieced top, completed whilst on retreat in Port Isaac, Cornwall
A light and bright use of 'Southwestern' colours. with a hint of the Clovis arrowheads for good measure!
Another coffeehouse inspiration, this time from my son!
The photo on the left is of my top which I pieced on the same retreat as 'Gingerbread Latte'. Look carefully and you will see when I pieced the top I made an error and didn't flip one of the elements properly! It's been put to rights now, but you can see we ALL make mistakes no matter how experienced we are so, there's no shame in admitting it :-)
When thinking of a name for the design, I was struck by how the various ‘bands’ of colour running across the pattern are very like the sashes important people wear at state functions, and to which they pin their medals and orders. One of the blocks is very like an ‘order’ star! The quilt finishes at around 89" square
Well three guesses for what the weather was doing when I designed this one??
The picture is of my top just after I'd completed it. The pattern is $8.99, like all my standalone patterns - please email me if you would like it as I haven't uploaded it to the site yet!
Cantre'r Gwaelod
The legend of Cantre'r Gwaelod is a sort of 'Welsh Atlantis' story and some believe the source of the Arthurian 'Lyonesse'. I hope this explains the mysterious, watery feel to this design.
Inspired by the sights, smells and atmosphere of my local spice shop in Semur-en-Auxois... The pattern is $8.99, like all my standalone patterns - please email me if you would like it as I haven't uploaded it to the site yet!
Rain on the Beach
One of the perils of a British summer seaside holiday, at least this quilt will keep you warm and cosy no matter what the weather is doing outside!
Another Valentine quilt for those who aren't into overt romance! Who remembers the sweet old song which shares this quilt's title? The pattern is $8.99, like all my standalone patterns - please email me if you would like it as I haven't uploaded it to the site yet!
Homecoming
I am a big fan of the 'Quilts of Valour' project and this was designed with that very much in mind. The pattern is $8.99, like all my standalone patterns - please email me if you would like it as I haven't uploaded it to the site yet!
Moelgillau Apache
Inspired by comments about my designs sometimes resembling Native American ones, and tales of old bandit gangs scampering around my valley
I wanted to mark the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II in some way, so used the fabulous jewels in her collection as a starting point. The pattern includes instructions for at least four alternative colourways, using both light and dark backgrounds.
The possibilities for colours are fairly endless - Berry Icecream (above) would be ideal for a little girl's 'Princess Bedroom'. Whereas 'Blueberry Shortcake' (below) I think would be more suitable in an adult context. There is also a 'Christmas' colourway shown on the 'Christmas designs' page.
The pattern includes instructions for all three colourways - what a total bargain!
A lot of British kids of my generation were brought up on BBC wildlife programmes where terribly well-spoken presenters would attempt to educate us all about the fauna in various parts of the world. I didn’t really care much for the four legged creatures scampering over the plains of Africa. Progammes about turtles however, meant I was completely glued to the screen and used to cheer the little babies on when they emerged from their sandy nest and tried to make it to the nearby sea. So this quilt is really a throwback to those times, where I imagine my little turtles swimming through lovely clear tropical water in the sunshine.
This is another design for a beginner quilter and gets you practising those half-square triangles! Hopefully it's such a cheerful design that you'll forget you are learning! The pattern is $8.99, like all my standalone patterns - please email me if you would like it as I haven't uploaded it to the site yet!
I often say you can get inspiration from anywhere if you look... and here is proof. The pattern includes instructions for both 'black coffee' and 'white coffee' version as shown above
A sprightly rendition of some simpler blocks for the less experienced quilter, worked in Kansas Troubles fabrics for Moda. It would also look fabulous in a brighter colourway so why not let your imagination dance a jig too?! The pattern is $8.99, like all my standalone patterns - please email me if you would like it as I haven't uploaded it to the site yet!
Strawberry Frosting
Inspired by some 'Valentine' cupcakes I spotted in a bakery in Wadebridge on an absolutely freezing February day! Make it to warm up YOUR Valentine!
And the third in my trio of Valentine quilts for the romantically challenged! This was bizarrely inspired by one of my son's Nordic socks - see how many 'hearts' you can spot!
I am actually more of a savoury treat afficionado than a sweet one, but I confess being inspired by cheese is a bit beyond even me. So here I expose another small dirty secret to the world - I do absolutely adore warm cinnamon rolls for breakfast! The pattern is $8.99, like all my standalone patterns - please email me if you would like it as I haven't uploaded it to the site yet!
