A while ago I looked at all the news media and became thoroughly depressed by all the bad news and horror stories floating around - I just felt so powerless to do anything about any of it.

Then I had the idea to 'do the small things'.  The patron saint of Wales, St David's last sermon included the phrase 'Gwnewch y pethau bychain mewn bywyd' (''Do the small things in life')  so it is a very Welsh way of thinking about the world. In making a small smile here, a small piece of happiness there, I thought perhaps a big collective smile might gain momentum and create  a bigger smile running all over the world.

Quilters are by and large generous and kind people, and most of us do things for charity from time to time.  So leading on from my 'small things' idea, I put together a block (seen above) which I am offering free of charge to give people who need a bit of inspiration for their charity projects.

Take it. Use it. Make people smile. And share it, so the smiles go viral. And post any projects or anything connected with this idea under the #quilttheworldhappy heading so we can all share in the joy. Life is short and the more smiles we can make together makes the world a better place.

A 'Quilt the World Happy' quilt, just before it went off to be longarmed, I made for a lady who had had such a bad time it is beyond my imagination to comprehend.
